NBA Trades: One Ben Simmons trade for every NBA team – Cleveland Cavaliers
This move looked much better prior to the announcement that Collin Sexton would be missing the rest of the season, but if the Sixers are truly willing to let a whole year go by with Simmons not being on the court, why not lock in a replacement guard instead.
Sexton is a bulldog whose fit with Darius Garland has been considered suspect by many, but as part of the ensemble of guards in the City of Brotherly Love, he would add an element of toughness.
He will be a restricted free agent this summer, giving the Sixers the chance to match any offer sheet that may come his way. While the injury is a fly in the ointment, it is not something that should prevent a full return to the court next season.
Kevin Love is the salary filler here, but he could find new life getting back to a team that is competing for something greater than ping pong balls. His role with the Cleveland Cavaliers has been greatly diminished in recent years, only further cemented with the move forward around the trio of Lauri Markkanen, Jarrett Allen, and Evan Mobley. Simmons would play well in the backcourt alongside the blossoming Garland, functioning as an elite connector.
