Darius Garland will make-or-break the Cleveland Cavaliers season: He is a floor general

Most important to his breakout is Garland’s emergence as a reliable floor general. There is a conscious effort from DG to pick-and-choose when to become aggressive and when to get his teammates involved – a skill that only the best leaders have.

Garland has already shown to be one of the best lob passers in the NBA. Granted, tossing alley-oops to athletic freaks like Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley seems easy, but his timing and pass manipulation is second to none.

One of the most impressive aspects of Garland’s breakout season has been his ability to control the floor. He is running the offense with precision and often making plays one step ahead of the defense.

The addition of a veteran point guard in Ricky Rubio has certainly helped Garland develop. Continuing to soak up information and command the offense will be key to Garland’s progression moving forward.

Next up, Garland has to prove this is not a fluke. The Cavaliers will be regaining names like Allen, Lauri Markkanen, and Cedi Osman soon. Not long after, Mobley should return as well. While their ceiling has been limited by the loss of Sexton, this team is not preparing to tank again.

This places Garland at the forefront of one of the most exciting young squads in the league. He will need to accept the challenge of scoring and creating plays at a high rate, while also rounding out his defensive chops (which have looked improved this season).
