3 blockbuster trades involving star NBA players: Ben Simmons trade to the Charlotte Hornets

Hornets receive: Ben Simmons

76ers receive: Gordon Hayward, Ish Smith, 2026 Second-Round Pick

The Ben Simmons drama has been going on for far too long now. It’s time that the 76ers finally find a trade for him, and this could be the perfect one.

The Charlotte Hornets have been one of the worse defensive teams in the league this year. Adding a player like Simmons would definitely help turn that around.

Now, the question must be asked, would Simmons start at point guard? The answer – no. If the Hornets were to trade for Simmons, they should run him as their starting center.

At 6’10”, there’s no question that Simmons is big enough to play the center position. He’s also one of the few players in the NBA who can guard positions one through five.

He would fit in beautifully next to LaMelo Ball as a lob threat and a rim runner. In addition, he would have plenty of spacing alongside him with the likes of Miles Bridges and Kelly Oubre Jr.

Meanwhile, the 76ers would be getting an All-Star caliber player back in return for Simmons. Gordon Hayward may be on the backend of his career, but he would still help the Sixers in a huge way.

Philadelphia would get to move on from Simmons, while Charlotte would get an elite defender to shore things up on that side of the ball. Both sides should definitely look into this deal.
