Does a Marvin Bagley III trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?: On-court fit

From a statistical standpoint, Bagley is clearly the type of player worth taking a chance on. Over his first three seasons, he has appeared in 118 games (started 52) and posted the following line: 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game in just 25.8 minutes.

He has a traditional game on the offensive end that could provide a solid complement to Isaiah Stewart if the team paired them together. He would also be able to feast on reserve units, as he has shown to be capable of that in the past.

Bagley would provide a lob threat to the Pistons, something they are truly lacking right now. This would add a dynamic to the offense that both Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes would be able to utilize nightly. Furthermore, adding that threat to the offensive arsenal would help the young blossoming guards to continue to develop.

Health and lack of belief from the coaching staff have been the biggest issue for Bagley so far in his career. He would be entering a situation where he would not have the pressure of being the former number two pick, taken ahead of both Luka Doncic and Trae Young.

With the Detroit Pistons, he would be able to start anew, as they have a culture of development and accountability that has already yielded noticeable results. The risk is minimal and the reward could change the future for both the player and the franchise.
