NBA player rankings week 4: 5. Paul George

With Kawhi Leonard sidelined, everyone figured that Paul George would step up. Well, not only has he stepped up, but MVPG13 is officially back.

Team success: Losing Leonard for the season seriously lowered the expectations for this CLippers team, just as it did in the playoffs last year. Luckily, this is the sort of team that thrives with no expectations.

While LA may have gotten off to a slow start, they have picked up the pace lately. They now sit at 7-4 and are tied for fourth in the Western Conference.

Player stats: George is averaging 26.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists so far this year. In addition, he’s shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from three.

On top of all of that, George is also tallying 2.5 steals per game this year, getting it done on both ends. This mark ranks second in the league behind only Alex Caruso.

Reason for rank: As mentioned, the Clippers have needed George to play this well since Leonard is out. He has done more than enough, and so far, they look like a dangerous playoff team.

The team around him is playing solid as well, but it all starts with George. He’s the focal point of their game plan, and he’s playing so well that he earned himself a top-five rank on this list.
