NBA player rankings week 4: 7. Ja Morant

The Memphis Grizzlies squeaked into the NBA playoffs last season and have not looked back since. Although they are only 6-5 this season, Ja Morant is playing insanely well.

Team success: The Grizzlies are fairly mediocre in the grand scheme of things, but they have a ton of potential for growth. They are still a very young team and are way ahead of their rebuild schedule.

Morant, alongside a red hot Desmond Bane, has led the Grizzlies to a solid record. The NBA as a whole is very strong right now, so 6-5 is nothing to scoff at.

Player stats: The third-year point guard is averaging 26.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game. Morant is shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from deep.

He’s taking the third-most two-point shots in the NBA right now, too (15.6). This new brand of basketball brought about by the rule changes has really benefitted Morant’s attacking style of play.

Reason for rank: Morant is one of the leading candidates for the Most Improved Player award. On top of that, he should easily be an All-Star, and will likely even be a candidate for an All-NBA selection.

The jump he has taken from last year to this year is nothing short of incredible. He fully deserves to be on this list with the way he has been performing.
