NBA player rankings week 4: 10. Luka Doncic

The Dallas Mavericks have been alright this season, starting the year off 7-4. Despite some early struggles, Luka Doncic is slowly returning to form as the season progresses.

Team success: As mentioned, the Mavericks have a solid record, but the advanced stats tell a different story. They are in the bottom half of the league in both offensive and defensive rating.

Doncic has been piggy-backing the team alongside guard Jalen Brunson as Tim Hardaway Jr. struggles to shoot efficiently and Kristaps Porzingis struggles to do much at all.

Player stats: So far this season, Doncic is averaging 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game. He is shooting 43.3 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from three-point range.

However, he has picked things up recently and is shooting 38.1 percent from range in his last three games. Things are looking up for the fourth-year guard.

Reason for rank: In most other seasons, Luka Doncic would be much higher up on this list. However, a poor start to the year and inefficient shooting splits hurt him a bit.

That being said, his assist numbers would be up if his teammates made some more open looks. A solid record and decent stats (for his expectations) are still enough to warrant a spot in the top ten (but the competition is creeping up).
