Potential NBA trades for this season: Daniel Theis trade to Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers receive: Daniel Theis

Houston Rockets receive: Kendrick Nunn, DeAndre Jordan

The Los Angeles Lakers have been fairly disappointing so far this season. A big reason behind that is because they allow the most points in the paint per game in the entire league (51.0).

Obviously, there are other reasons, too, but when a team is ranked dead last in the league at something, that’s an immediate red flag. Trading for a guy like Daniel Theis could help with that.

Theis is far from the flashiest name in the NBA, but he’s known for his physical play, especially during his time in Boston. He’s not the tallest guy in the world, but he knows how to do the dirty work.

Adding Theis to their center rotation would be a huge upgrade over DeAndre Jordan, and it would give them another look at the five outside of Dwight Howard. Theis can shoot a bit, too, so he could help space the floor even more.

The Rockets would likely have no issues making this deal as Theis doesn’t fit into their long-term plans at all. Honestly, it was surprising to see him sign there this offseason in the first place.

They would be committing highway robbery with this trade, but Theis fits the Lakers’ needs, so they wouldn’t mind the deal either. Houston would get Kendrick Nunn (a younger player who could help them) and DeAndre Jordan (who they could buy out of waive).

Nunn has been out for all of this year so far, but based on what the Lakers are struggling with, it doesn’t seem as though they will need him. A quality center might fit their needs a bit more.

This trade would easily benefit both sides and could help each team with their goals this season. LA gets a bruiser to bang down low and the Rockets sell high on a veteran.
