Detroit Pistons players who are overachieving this season: Saddiq Bey
Some may look at the simple box score stats for Saddiq Bey that they are used to focusing on and think this season has been a downer. As a rookie, Bey knocked down 38.0 percent of his 6.6 three-point attempts per game, marking one of the best rookie shooting seasons ever. This season there has been a dip, and he is hitting just 27.9 percent so far. However, his development beyond the shooting from the perimeter has been impressive.
Bey has grown into a much more physical and active rebounder. He is averaging nearly as many defensive rebounds this season as total rebounds last year. He is one of the 30 best offensive rebounders in the league to date. Bey has also found more ways to create his own shot, driving to the lane far more than he ever did as a rookie.
The entire season for the Detroit Pistons is about making progress and the young talent developing their skills. Almost entirely overhauling one’s offensive game after making the All-Rookie First Team is a substantial shift.
Bey has shown, in this small sample, that he has even more potential than expected. Combine the offensive evolution with his defensive potential, and Bey looks like he could be an All-Star one day as long as he continues to improve at this rate.
