The other night, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors put up a whopping 50 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds against the Atlanta Hawks in a 127-113 win. In doing so, he proved that he is the player to beat in the race for this season’s MVP trophy.

Curry was on fire against the Hawks. After scoring the first 13 points for Golden State, he was 9-of-19 from beyond the arc and a flawless 13-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Not only did he become the oldest player in NBA history to record 50+ points and 10+ assists in a game, but he also helped raise the Warriors’ record to 9-1.

The Warriors are currently the only team in the entire league with fewer than three losses.

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry should be the frontrunner for the 2021-22 MVP award

Stephen Curry is averaging 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game this season. His career averages are 24.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. Therefore, Curry really is playing the best basketball of his career this season.

Before the season began, most analysts agreed that Luka Doncic or Giannis Antetokounmpo would likely claim MVP. People knew that Curry and the Warriors would do well, but few predicted they’d do this well.

Steph Curry has definitely pushed himself to the front of the pack and is likely the odds-on favorite for MVP. Meanwhile, the Warriors are now most people’s favorites to win the Western Conference this season.

Two questions remain about Curry and his amazing season so far. First, how long can this last and will he still be performing like this in March? And second, what will happen when Klay Thompson returns to the court?

There is a strong possibility that Thompson joins Stephen Curry and the team in the near future, and that could spell even more trouble for the rest of the NBA. Keep an eye on Curry’s MVP campaign as the season progresses.
