Even when he’s feeling under the weather, Anthony Davis is a huge asset to the Los Angeles Lakers. LA’s big man put up 32 points Monday night against the Charlotte Hornets. He also secured 12 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 4 assists.

He did all of this in the midst of a nasty stomach virus that had him throwing up during the game itself. The severe flu sidelined him just days prior during a game against the Portland Trail Blazers, where the Lakers got trounced without Davis’ efforts.

Davis was questionable for the home game against the Hornets at first, but he felt a little bit better before tip-off. He said he was drinking a lot of fluids and attempting to eat as much as he could keep down. However, he still had to exit the game briefly to vomit in the middle of the third quarter.

After a huddle with the team’s training staff and a Gatorade break, he was back on the court and pushed through the rest of the game, as well as a period of overtime.

Sick or not, Anthony Davis is needed by the Lakers in a huge way right now since LeBron James is on the bench with an abdominal strain, and Russell Westbrook is having serious issues finding his rhythm. Now in his third year with the team, it might be time for Davis to officially become the team’s leader, at least for the foreseeable future.

After the game, Carmelo Anthony commented on his teammate’s dedication even in the face of a nasty illness. According to Silver Screen and Roll, Carmelo had this to say:

"“I didn’t know he threw up, but for him to do that and still come back and help us win this game and get this victory, that just says a lot about him.”"

Even before the stomach flu, Anthony Davis was dealing with a thumb injury that he hasn’t fully recovered from. Now that the team has a big victory under its belt, AD can take time to relax, heal, and feel better before competing against the Miami Heat on Thursday night.
