NBA: Ranking all 30 2021-2022 City Edition jerseys
By Corey Rausch
The City Edition Jerseys have become a yearly tradition in the NBA. Teams (at least most teams) find a creative way to get fans to buy new jerseys. Going along with that tradition, for the third straight season, I will be ranking each design.
Creativity and meaning matter for a collector of jerseys. For reference, the previous articles can be found here (2019) and here (2020). In the 75th anniversary of the NBA, the City Edition jerseys brought about a historic flair. Where does your favorite team rank?
Ranking all 30 2021-2022 NBA City Edition jerseys: 30. Utah Jazz
These Utah Jazz jerseys are good-looking jerseys. The biggest issue is that they are one of two teams that decided not to update their jersey from the year prior. That puts them at the bottom of the list for me.
For the anniversary season, the organization has plenty of inspiration to draw from, including the beautiful 1990s kits. This is a missed opportunity.
Ranking all 30 2021-2022 NBA City Edition jerseys: 29. Phoenix Suns
Right ahead of the Utah Jazz are the Phoenix Suns. The Valley jerseys were one of the biggest hits of the previous season, making it all the way up to fourth in the rankings.
Making them part of the regular rotation makes sense. However, failing to do something new and creative is simply a disappointment.
Ranking all 30 2021-2022 NBA City Edition jerseys: 28. Oklahoma City Thunder
An all-white jersey was certainly a choice to make. Bringing back the vertical name from the alternate jersey in 2012 is a fun touch. They incorporated sound stripes from a 2017 jersey, which also brought to light that the city refers to itself as “Loud City.”
Finally, they added the tribal nation’s sash on the shorts from the 2018 jerseys. The history is cool, but the complete lack of color is a miss for me.
