NBA Power Rankings Week 2: Scorching hot Miami Heat and what scares me
Last Week: (L) to LAL, (L) to DAL, (W) over MIL
The San Antonio Spurs are genuinely trying to win games this season, but they are hindered in doing so by a young rotation that always had veterans to lean on. Now Dejounte Murray and Derrick White and Jakob Poetl are the veterans, and they have full command of the rotation outside of Doug McDermott.
They have been solid defensively, 10th in the league, and they’re hung in there for every game they’ve played. Despite being 2-4 they have a positive net rating at +1.7. Their most recent win was over the defending champs. The Spurs will have a lot of growing pains, but short of playing Josh Primo the Spurs are playing their young guys and giving them room to grow.
Scares Me: Trying to dribble on Dejounte Murray. This fear is a little different, as instead of my fear manifesting as a fan it is manifesting as a potential opponent of Murray’s. How many attempts would it take for me to turn the corner on Murray – a million? Ten million? Murray is averaging a career-high 2.2 steals per game, picking pockets and jumping passing lanes at an elite level. No thanks.
