NBA: Most likely first time All-Stars from each team: Detroit Pistons – Cade Cunningham

There’s a good chance that no one from the Detroit Pistons emerges as an All-Star this season. Still, if anyone is going to do it, then it’ll be their number one overall pick, Cade Cunningham.

Now we know, it should be Jerami Grant. In his first full season as the big man on campus, Grant poured in a career-high 22.3 points per game. After spending the first six seasons of his time in the league as essentially a bench player, Grant proved that he’s much more than some inconsequential cog on a team. With that said, don’t let Grant’s numbers fool you.

Sure he was terrific last season and there’s no denying that he finished in second place in Most Improved Player of the Year but Grant isn’t a star and he’s not a future All-Star. Cunningham, on the other hand, has a strong shot.

The former number one overall pick has been great everywhere. He was the number one player in high school, the best player in college and he was arguably the best player in the Summer League this year, as he averaged 18.7 points and 5.7 rebounds. He is, however, starting a bit behind the eight ball as a troublesome ankle injury has prevented him from making his season debut. Sooner, rather than later, he’ll step foot on the court and ball out.

Cunningham is as talented as they come and his potential is through the roof. We don’t expect him to make the All-Star team in his first year in the league but if anyone from the Pistons is going to get the nod, it’s going to be Cunningham.
