NBA: Most likely first time All-Stars from each team: San Antonio Spurs – Dejounte Murray
The Spurs aren’t expected to have many talk about moments this season. With the franchise stuck in what seems to be a perpetual rebuild, fans of San Antonio will have no choice but to put on their seatbelts and get ready for a bumpy ride.
Like most All-Star Games, a selection to the big dance will likely require a respectable record. But, as just mentioned, that simply isn’t happening for the Spurs this year.
If the franchise wants to be represented in this year’s All-Star Game, said player will have to force his way there on sheer talent and gaudy numbers. Dejounte Murray is the most likely player to do just that.
We’ll admit it, we were never particularly impressed with Murray during the first few seasons of his career. His jumper was nonexistent, he was a liability from the free-throw line and he had a difficult time finishing at the basket. Fast forward to today, however, and he’s become one of the better young guards in the league.
Currently, averaging a triple-double is just within his reach Murray is dropping (15.3 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists currently). If he’s able to keep up his ridiculous pace, there’s a chance coach Gregg Popovich has another All-Star on his hands.
