Boston Celtics: Predicting statistical leaders in each major category
By Zane Harris
Points: Jayson Tatum
Jayson Tatum has led the Boston Celtics in points per game for the past two consecutive seasons. Also, in the year before that, Tatum finished second on the team in scoring only behind Kyrie Irving.
Last season, Tatum finished 10th overall in the league in terms of points per game. There is a chance that he continues to climb that list this season. Outside of Jaylen Brown, Tatum will not have much help on the offensive end unless Dennis Schroder makes a big leap this season on the offensive end.
However, with the departure of Kemba Walker this offseason, a lot of the playmaking responsibilities will now fall on Tatum’s shoulders. This is something that he is not really used to. Since his emergence as a star in this league, Tatum has had an established point guard around him.
Whether that be Kyrie Irving or Kemba Walker, Tatum has always had someone that could set him and his teammates up with baskets, however, now Tatum will likely have to find a perfect balance between facilitator and scorer.
While this may lead to his points per game taking a slight dip, he will still remain the leading scorer for the Celtics this season.
