Top 2021-22 breakout candidate for each NBA team

Cleveland Cavaliers: Darius Garland

Darius Garland isn’t just a breakout candidate for the Cleveland Cavaliers this season, but a legitimate candidate for the 2021-22 Most Improved Player award as well. The 21-year-old guard witnessed his backcourt teammate Collin Sexton take a huge leap forward last season, and now it’s his turn to steal the spotlight. As a former lottery pick, Garland is expected to shift into another gear soon, and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be this year.

Detroit Pistons: Isaiah Stewart

The Detroit Pistons have formed an exciting young core, especially with the addition of 2021 No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham, and they should all have many opportunities to shine on the floor. With the lack of center depth, 20-year-old sophomore Isaiah Stewart should be due for a strong, consistent role as he’ll most likely be in the starting lineup and generate plenty of minutes per contest.

Indiana Pacers: Caris LeVert

As the Indiana Pacers aim to return to the playoffs after a brief absence, they’ll look for Caris LeVert to have a special season. Ever since the Pacers acquired LeVert in a blockbuster multi-team trade, which appeared to save his life, there were high expectations for his development. With Rick Carlisle as the new head coach in Indianapolis and with the promising shooting guard now healthy, Caris LeVert could be prepared for a borderline All-Star type season this year.

Miami Heat: Tyler Herro

Following an impressive rookie season before underwhelming last year, Tyler Herro looks poised to become a bright spot again and make a splash for the Miami Heat this season. Similar to how impactful his presence was during the NBA Finals run in the bubble, Herro has brought back that underdog mentality that has helped him become who he is as a competitor today. He’ll be playing with a chip on his shoulder this year.

Milwaukee Bucks: Jordan Nwora

While the Milwaukee Bucks prepare to repeat as NBA champions, they’ll have a variety of new weapons to unleash, and sharpshooting wing Jordan Nwora will certainly be one of them. Nwora, entering his second season in the league at 23 years old, should earn a consistent rotational role with the Bucks after showcasing his talents at the Tokyo Olympics, NBA Summer League, and throughout this preseason. Jordan Nwora could be heating up for a breakout season.
