Tyler Herro will be an X-factor for the Miami Heat in 2021-22

After taking the NBA by storm in his rookie season, Tyler Herro had an up and down sophomore season in 2020-21. There were many games where he looked very solid, while he looked average in others. The latter notion can be said for his four-game stretch against the Bucks in the playoffs, where he certainly went through a learning experience. As he enters year three in Miami, many believe the 21-year-old guard is destined for a leap in his development, and he certainly kicked things off with a bang by scoring 26 points in the preseason opener against the Atlanta Hawks.

Herro will likely come off the bench this coming season due to all of the new talent in the fold, and they will need him to provide a spark. He has shown a knack for scoring the basketball during his first two seasons, averaging 13.5 points in his rookie year and 15.1 points last season. Set to play a vital role once again, the Heat are yet again banking on Herro to bump up that scoring average. Knocking down his 3-point shots will help him in that regard, as Herro has hit 37.5 percent of his triples on 5.5 percent of his career attempts. Herro’s spacing will be pivotal when he is on the floor with Butler, Bam Adebayo, and the rest of the lineup.

The biggest thing for Herro will be piecing it all together consistently. The perfect example of this comes in a four-game stretch from last season. Herro scored a combined 15 points in consecutive matchups against the OKC Thunder and Boston Celtics in early January. In the next two games vs. the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers, Herro scored 65 total points. He could erupt for 30 points one night but then come out and put up single digits the very next. If he can find that balance on the offensive end, it would make this team all the more lethal with the guard leading the second unit.
