Toronto Raptors: Ranking all 5 starters for the 2021-22 season
Ranking Raptors starters: 3. SF OG Anunoby
Last season was the first where OG Anunoby showed he can be a real scorer in the NBA. The Raptors will hope he continues to progress on the offensive end while continuing his strong play on the other end of the court.
Anunoby started every game he played in last season, averaging a career-high 15.9 points per game. He showed his best proficiency yet from the free-throw line and 3-point line, hitting 78.4 percent and 39.8 percent from those areas, respectively.
He managed to improve his offensive game without seeing a drop-off in his defensive game. In fact, many of his counting stats reached new heights last year.
Anunoby brought down 5.5 rebounds per game while snatching an average of 1.5 steals and blocking 0.7 shots per contest. All of those even matched or set new career-best marks for the 24-year-old.
Last year, Anunoby signed a four-year, $72 million extension with the Raptors. The Brit never came with the same hype that Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam have, but those two players earned their status – Anunoby is close to doing the same as well.
He has the capability to be a leader for the Raptors, part of its next generation of homegrown stars. This should be the year Anunoby breaks out on a major scale.
