Ranking the top 50 NBA players of the 2021-2022 season: 30-21
By Corey Rausch
Top 50 NBA players: 29. Karl-Anthony Towns
Previous Rank: 19
The struggles during the pandemic for Karl-Anthony Towns have been well-documented. He has suffered so much loss that it is easy to forget about basketball. When it comes to the on-court aspect he has played in just 85 games over the last two seasons. Last season he posted his lowest rebounding average (10.6 per game) since his rookie season. His scoring average dropped nearly two full points per game (26.5 to 24.8). However, finally, it would seem there is a chance for a turnaround for the former All-Star.
The Timberwolves roster is the most built to his own talents yet. Anthony Edwards, D’Angelo Russell and Malik Beasley did not get to spend enough time on the court with the face of their franchise a year ago. Chris Finch joined the team as the head coach midseason and now gets a chance to completely implement his plan. All of this bodes well for Towns to bounce back in a major way.
It was not long ago that Towns was talked about as possibly the best young big man prospect alongside Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid. While the others have been completing for MVPs and the top of the standings, Towns has been dealing with major issues. Now he is back and finally appears to have some support. It may finally be time for the Timberwolves to get back in the race.
