The New York Knicks were one of the surprise packets of last season. Under coach Tom Thibodeau they turned into a defensive powerhouse which ended up making the playoffs based on the offensive talents of Julius Randle and Derrick Rose.

The Knicks then went ahead and re-signed Nerlens Noel, Taj Gibson, Alec Burks, and Rose. They also signed Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker as free agents. These are both upgrades on Reggie Bullock and Elfrid Payton.

As such, the Knicks are in a strong position to make the playoffs again assuming that the new additions gel with the established players. It will be interesting to see how these new players will impact who leads the team in the major statistical categories.

New York Knicks statistical leaders – Scoring: Julius Randle
Predicted average: 21.5

Last season the Knicks relied heavily on Randle’s scoring and ability to run the offense. As such, he was able to get to his spots and improved his efficiency especially from beyond the arc. This was a big reason for the success of the franchise.

However, the Knicks have signed an elite point guard in Walker who will have the ball in his hands more than Elfrid Payton did. On top of that, they have a Fournier who will take a lot more of the load offensively than Reggie Bullock had the ability to.

Randle will still be the leader of this team, the Knicks have such a belief in him as a player. However, he will not average 24.1 points per game as he did last season. The scoring load will spread a little more meaning Randle will lose at least 2.5 points per game.
