Predicting the starting lineup for every NBA team: Atlanta Hawks

PG: Trae Young

SG: Bogdan Bogdanovic

SF: DeAndre Hunter

PF: John Collins

C: Clint Capela

Trae Young just inked a maximum rookie extension and is the centerpiece of this franchise for years to come. His shooting and passing ability are perfect for the point guard position, and his lack of size and defensive impact mean he is best deployed there as well. Bogdan Bogdanovic finally looked fully healthy by the last third of the season and became a versatile wingman for Young.

Clint Capela likewise inked a contract extension of his own. He’s an excellent fit with Collins because of his rim protection and likewise with Young as a dynamic lob threat. The Hawks brought back Collins on a lucrative contract after a career year, including a postseason run when he scored when needed but overall played hard and made an impact.

The small forward position is the question mark. DeAndre Hunter has been frequently injured during his young career, but when he does play he has clearly been their best two-way option at the position. Cam Reddish has a lot of upside as well and could be a starter down the line. With Hunter injured in the postseason, the Hawks slid Bogdanovic down and inserted Kevin Huerter, a look they could go to anytime Hunter is out this year as well. The Hawks’ roster is deep and versatile, providing head coach Nate McMillan with plenty of lineup options.
