Golden State Warriors free agency signing No. 3: Andre Iguodala

After it was announced that Thompson was going to miss his first season with injury the Warriors looked to reduce their tax bill by trading Andre Iguodala. They managed to ship him off to the Memphis Grizzlies where he chose not to report. He did not want to risk his body over the final part of his career playing on a team that would not be able to compete at a high enough level.

The Grizzlies managed to trade Iguodala to the Miami Heat where the former Finals MVP did play, helping them make the NBA Finals in the bubble. Unfortunately for Iguodala, the Heat lost to the Lakers so he did not add to his silverware collection.

Last season the Heat again made the playoffs but were bundled out in the first round. This led them to overhaul their roster and they did not guarantee the veteran’s $15.0 salary. This allowed the Warriors to strike and they signed Iguodala to a single-season, veterans minimum deal.

While Iguodala is a little slower and his scoring has dropped off he knows the Warriors’ systems and he will be a key piece of the defense. This could be a final swansong before he retires so he will put everything into winning another championship.
