The LA Clippers had a really good season which ended too early thanks to the knee injury to Kawhi Leonard. Paul George did everything that he could, ably supported by the rest of the role-players but unfortunately for them, the Phoenix Suns were a bridge too far.

The Clippers have been a perennial contender since the 2019-20  season when Leonard came to the franchise, bringing with him Paul George. The move cost them a huge number of picks as well as one of their future star in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander but if the Clippers can win a title, they will believe it was all worth it.

Last season they tinkered with the guard position, sending Lou Williams to the Atlanta Hawks for Rajon Rondo. The two-time Sixth Man of the Year had become less effective since his second unit partner, Montrezl Harrell, signed with the Los Angeles Lakers at the end of the 2020 season. Now, let’s take a look at the 2021 free agency signings.

LA Clippers’ free agency signing No. 1: Nicolas Batum

After the Charlotte Hornets waived and stretched Nicolas Batum in order to sign Gordon Hayward, the 6’8″ wing was free to choose where to take his services. Fortunately for the Clippers, Batum chose to come to Los Angeles to play for the Clippers.

Despite only averaging 8.1 points and 4.7 rebounds, Batum was a crucial piece for the Clippers last season. His experienced play and solid perimeter shooting allowed the Clippers to have more flexible lineups throughout the season. Securing his signature should help the Clippers in a season where they may not have the services of Leonard.
