Predicting the stat leaders for the Boston Celtics in 2020-21

The Boston Celtics are going to have an unpredictable year. They could either become a top-four seed and truly contend, or they can bottom out and miss the playoffs entirely. We certainly won’t wreck our brains trying to figure them out but let’s jump into who will lead them in points, rebounds, and assists this upcoming season.

Celtics points per game leader: Jayson Tatum

If the 2020-21 season never took place, it would’ve been fairly easy to predict who would lead the Celtics in points per game this upcoming season.

Jaylen Brown really came into his own this past year. The normally defensive first two guard averaged a career-high 24.7 points per game. At times, Brown appeared to be the best player on the offensive end of the ball for the Celtics. Nevertheless, Brown will challenge for the top spot for the Celtics points per game average this year but he’ll ultimately fall short to Jayson Tatum.

Heading into now his fifth season, Tatum will lead the Celtics in points per game, while also surpassing the 26.4 mark he poured in this past season. The former Duke Blue Devil simply has all of the moves. He can scorch you from outside, terrorize you from midrange, dunk on your head, and has an extensive layup package. For as great as Brown is, he simply isn’t on his level.

Celtics rebounds per game leader: Enes Kanter

The Celtics as a whole aren’t a very good rebounding team and they certainly lack in size. The addition of Al Horford won’t exactly help either. But, with Enes Kanter re-joining the squad in free agency, we expect things him to lead them in the rebounding category. Despite playing roughly 20 minutes a night, Kanter gobbles up boards with the best of them.

Celtics assists per game leader: Marcus Smart

When it comes to assists, this one could get tricky. Marcus Smart seems like the logical choice here. He isn’t a traditional point guard but he did lead the squad in dishes per game with 5.7 last season. Also, the ball could be in his hands a lot more now that Kemba Walker is a New York Knick. With the rest of the Celtics more interested in scoring, it could be up to Smart to set everyone up.
