Predicting the stat leaders for every NBA team
Predicting the stat leaders for the New York Knicks in 2020-21
New York Knicks should really hold their horses when it comes to their championship hopes. We certainly don’t predict a ring in that department but we can certainly tell you who will lead them in points, rebounds and assists.
Knicks points per game leader: Julius Randle
It was the first time in the career of Julius Randle that he led the ball club he was on in points per game. His 24.1 points per game pushed him from fringe level starter to All-Star level player. He even received a few MVP votes due to his breakout year.
Year three on the Knicks will be a bit more difficult for Randle to lead them in points per game considering they added Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker. If Walker’s knees hold up for an entire season, he could surpass Randle but we expect head coach Tom Thibodeau to take it easy on his minutes. Shocking to say, we know.
Knicks rebounds per game leader: Mitchell Robinson
While Randle will repeat as the teams leading scorer, he won’t as the team’s top rebounder. Randle’s 10.2 rebounds a night will take a hit once Mitchell Robinson makes his way back to the court. With very little to offer on the offensive end, Robinson has earned his minutes by being a menace on the defensive side of the ball. And he’ll need to crash the glass to keep his minutes high.
Knicks assists per game leader: Julius Randle
While players such as Walker and Derrick Rose are capable passers, they aren’t going to dropping dimes on a consistent basis. They would much rather put the ball in the net.
At one point, Randle was considered somewhat of a black hole. Meaning, the moment the ball touched his hands, he wasn’t giving it up. This past season, Randle proved he could be a playmaker, averaging a career-high 6.0 assists per game, leading the Knicks. His 6.0 per game actually, ranked second amongst power forwards in the league, only behind Draymond Green. With even more weapons at his disposal, Randle will set a new career-high and lead the Knicks for the second season in a row.
