Predicting the stat leaders for every NBA team
Predicting the stat leaders for the Charlotte Hornets in 2020-21
After becoming must see TV, who will lead the Charlotte Hornets in points, rebounds, and assists as they eye on a playoff spot.
Hornets points per game leader: Gordon Hayward
Maybe it’s because he missed more than half the season, or maybe it’s because his game isn’t predicated on flash. Whatever the reason is, Gordon Hayward has become a forgotten man for the Charlotte Hornets.
In his first season with a new team, he casually poured in 19.6 points per game. And while he was usurped by Terry Rozier for the lead on the team with 20.4, Rozier’s usage rate went through the roof once Gordon went down with a season-ending injury. As long as he’s healthy, Gordon will bounce back and pour in over 20 points a night.
Hornets rebounds and assists per game leader: LaMelo Ball
To be frank, the Hornets are a horrible rebounding team. This past season, no one averaged more than 6.8. With a gluttony of players grabbing somewhere in the six a game neighborhood. We have an unconventional answer for who will lead them in rebounds per game this season. Enter, LaMelo Ball.
With 5.9 this past season, Ball was tied for the fourth-highest on his team. P.J Washington isn’t an impressive rebounder, Zeller won’t get the playing time to make a dent and Miles Bridges has never been known for getting his hands dirty. It’s certainly a stretch but with Ball expected to play a ton of minutes, we could see him ending the season with over seven rebounds a game.
Could we be ultimately wrong in the points per game and rebounds department? Of course we could, but there’s absolutely no doubt that Ball will lead them in assists. Rozier is score first player, so is Gordon and everyone else on the roster. Ball managed to lead them in assists last season as a rookie with 6.1 and he’ll have the ball in his hands even more now that Devonte Graham is out of the picture.
