Los Angeles Lakers NBA free agency move No. 3: Wayne Ellington

One of the biggest knocks on the Lakers this offseason was that they gave up a lot of their floor spacing with some of their signings. Well, who better to help that spacing issue than a player who has spent his entire career doing just that.

Wayne Ellington is a career 38.2 percent 3-point shooter and is coming off close to a career-best year in terms of shooting percentage from deep. He averaged 9.6 points per game last season with the Detroit Pistons, taking only 7.3 shot attempts per game.

Of these 7.3 attempts, 6.0 of them were from behind the long line and he made them at an impressive 42.2 percent. It is shooting like this which is going to open up the floor for James, Westbrook, and Davis in the coming season.

What is a little bit scary for the Laker faithful is that Ellington has played 12 seasons, which is the eighth-most of the Lakers roster. If the aging bodies start to fail throughout the rigors of a full NBA season then Ellington might have to play big minutes. The problem with that is his defense can struggle and he does not have many other elite skills.
