Miami Heat offseason signing No. 6: Markieff Morris

Markieff Morris has played for five different teams in his ten-year career with the Heat being the sixth. His last stint was with the Los Angeles Lakers where he helped them win the 2020 NBA title in the bubble. Heat fans saw what Morris can do during this series.

He is very rarely going to beat you with his scoring, he peaked back in his fourth season with the Phoenix Suns. Since then his role on offense has decreased and he has concentrated on becoming a floor spacer rather than a primary scorer.

Where Morris has his greatest impact is on the defensive end. He usually takes on the role of the team’s enforcer and he does it well. He is proof that the tough guy still has a place in the league despite the rules changing significantly to stop hard play.

He adds a toughness that the Heat were lacking last season. They had it the season before in the form of Jae Crowder and this was a big reason they won games that they should have lost. It is important for teams to have that player who is not afraid to get their hands dirty, but also who supports their more talented teammates, backing them up with aggressions.
