The Miami Heat had a very busy offseason, they needed to given they were not the same team that made it to the NBA Finals in the bubble season. It can be argued that the Heat got lucky in that they did not have to face the gauntlet of away playoff games but no other team had to either.

Unfortunately for the Heat, they were exposed during these playoffs as having too many players who only played one end of the court. They were swept by the eventual champion the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round. While they did not need to make wholesale changes they needed to change some key personnel. However, their first signing is the exact opposite of that.

Miami Heat offseason signing No. 1: Udonis Haslem

The Heat might be paying Udonis Haslem back for taking a pay cut during the Big-Three era. They may be trying to get the record of most seasons by an individual player. Either way, this signing is a mistake for the team.

Haslem has played only 45 games in the last five seasons and has not played a minute of playoff basketball in that time. The Heat could be using this slot to develop a younger player or at least someone who can help them on the court. While he is incredibly respected, there would have to be a way to keep him around without taking up a roster spot.

Miami Heat offseason signing No. 2: Omer Yurtseven

Omer Yurtseven had a really good summer league and could carve out a spot for himself on the Heat’s roster. He is big and he has developed his game over the past season. He looked really good as an offensive weapon. He is unlikely to garner huge amounts of court time.
