Boston Celtics: Isaiah Thomas remains unsigned in 2021 NBA Free Agency

The downfall of Isaiah Thomas has been tragic to witness. The guard played the best basketball of his career during his two and a half seasons with the Celtics, racking up two All-Star nominations, an All-NBA selection, and significant consideration for 2016-17 NBA MVP honors. Unfortunately, an injury derailed his career, and he has not managed to find a stable home since.

Thomas most recently played for the New Orleans Pelicans last season but appeared in just three games as the team did not renew his 10-day contract. He did not exactly shine during his time with the team, and many believed that it would be the final nail in the coffin for his hopes of an NBA return coming to fruition. Yet, the ever-persistent Thomas has continued pushing, and it seems like teams are still holding some level of interest.

In fact, The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski reported that Thomas recently took part in a workout with the Dallas Mavericks and that he “appeared to be in great shape.” Thomas and the Mavericks make some sense for one another. The Mavs need to put more support around Luka Dončić offensively, and while Thomas will not average 30 points per game like he used to, he could still give Dallas some quality production. Ultimately, it hinges on his health, but the former Celtic is someone everyone is pulling for to see back in the league.
