Pistons: Predicting statistical leaders in all the major categories
By Duncan Smith
Pistons statistical leaders – 3-point percentage: Cade Cunningham
Predicted percentage: 39.0
Cade Cunningham can score in a variety of ways, and he showed both in his freshman season at Oklahoma State and in Summer League that he’s especially lethal from 3-point range. Whether it be off the dribble or off the catch, Cunningham is a deadly shooter from long distance and he’s entirely capable of leading the Pistons in 3-point shooting.
Pistons statistical leaders – 2-point percentage: Isaiah Stewart
Predicted percentage: 59.5
Isaiah Stewart makes it on this list yet again as the 2-point percentage champion. He hit 59.2 percent of his 2-pointers a season ago and is the top returning candidate from 2020-21. His field-goal percentage may dip next season as a result of shooting more 3-pointers, but from 2-point range his numbers should remain steady. He’ll be a year older and more experienced, and somehow even stronger, so expect him to tick upwards from inside the arc.
Pistons statistical leaders – free-throw percentage: Saddiq Bey
Predicted percentage: 88.5
Cory Joseph and Jerami Grant were the team leaders a season ago in free-throw shooting, but their respective 87.8 and 84.5 percent marks were both outliers. Of course, Saddiq Bey’s 84.4 percent from the free-throw line was an outlier relative to his collegiate career, but he was trending up over his two years at Villanova. I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Joseph and Grant will both regress slightly from the free-throw line and Bey will improve slightly.
