New York Knicks free agency signing No. 8: Julius Randle

Julius Randle was the Most Improved Player last season and he was the centerpiece of one of the most incredible stories in the NBA last season. There was talk that he had impacted his value in free agency with a poor playoff showing but that can be explained by the lack of support he got from his teammates.

Randle was incredible last season. He averaged 24.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in 37.6 minutes per game. However, it was his increased efficiency that stood out the most. He improved his 3-point percentage improved to 41.1 percent. He also improved his free throw numbers, going at 81.1 percent from the line.

Randle reportedly left some money on the table in his contract negotiations in order for the team to be able to sign some more talented players. This should not be seen as Randle saying he is not good enough. On the contrary, he knows that he is unable to do it all alone and needs more help.

Randle will again lead this team next season. He is one of the best players on the squad and he will be able to do greater things with the new teammates that are coming in. Without Randle, this is just a middle-of-the-road team, with him, they are borderline contenders.
