New York Knicks: Grading their signings in NBA free agency
New York Knicks free agency signing No. 7: Taj Gibson
The New York native Taj Gibson re-signed with the Knicks on a two-year, $10.0 million deal which may see the 12 year NBA veteran see out his career. Gibson has spent the last two seasons with the Knicks and he is a true veteran leader.
The thing is that the opposition knows that they have been in a contest when they come off the court and Gibson has been playing. He is one of the most physical, yet fair, players in the NBA. He is not a big stat hunter though so you cannot see his impact on the box score easily.
What Gibson does do is he plays his role to perfection. He only averaged 5.4 points per game last season but he did so averaging only 3.5 shot attempts and 62.7 percent from the field. He also averaged 2.2 offensive rebounds per game which means he is not hurting the team on offense.
Defensively he is also a very solid piece for the Knicks. As mentioned earlier he is a very physical player so he is the perfect player for the team to put into almost any situation and they know that he will hold his own. He gives nothing away easily.
Grade: B
