Atlanta Hawks: Jeff Teague remains unsigned in 2021 NBA Free Agency

Jeff Teague’s best days in the NBA came as a member of the Hawks. The guard spent the first seven seasons of his career in Atlanta and even earned his sole All-Star nomination with the team during the 2014-15 season. He would return to the Hawks for 25 games during the 2019-20 season but found himself on the move once again in the offseason.

Teague had a strange year in 2020-21, starting the year off with the Boston Celtics, where he never found his footing. He would be traded and waived at the deadline, which paved the way for him to sign with the Bucks. His role would never be clear-cut, but reuniting with former coach Mike Budenholzer, who coached him with the Hawks, was a good move. Teague would give the team inconsistent play at the point guard position but ultimately helped the team in their quest to become world champions.

The reigning champion remains unsigned, and understandably so as he was inconsistent with the Bucks. However, for teams that are still in the hunt for another capable ball-handler off the bench, Teague could be the player they are searching for. The 12-year NBA veteran would provide scoring, shooting, playmaking, and experience to any team that signs him, making him tailor-made for a contending team to make a move.

One team that fits the bill is the Golden State Warriors, who are looking to put the finishing touches on their roster before next season. The team has some uncertainty regarding their backup point guard position, and Teague would help clear that up and give the team some depth in the backcourt behind Stephen Curry and a returning Klay Thompson.
