OKC Thunder free agency signing No. 1: Mike Muscala

There are several contending teams who could use a stretch-five like Mike Muscala. However, it seems that Muscala has found a comfortable home with the Thunder and as such signed a two-year, $7.0 million deal which will see him as an unrestricted free agent in 2023.

Muscala, while not noted for his interior defense, gives a tremendous amount of effort every time that he hits the floor. Muscala is also the second-most experienced member of the OKC Thunder squad, only the newly signed Derrick Favors has more seasons under his belt.

This puts Muscala in a unique situation where he is able to mentor some of the younger players within the team. As a stretch-five, he can really work with the 17th pick in the 2020 NBA draft, Aleksej Pokusevski who started to come on strong at the end of last season.

He also can be the voice for the second unit which also lacks experience. So, not only will he mentor Pokusevski, but he will also mentor most of the team. This is going to be crucial for the rebuilding of the Thunder. They are well known for selecting the right character of people for their franchise, this will be crucial when they make it back to the playoffs.
