Best trios in NBA history: 23. Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, and Michael Finley

  • Nowitzki: 19.6 ppg, 7.9 rbp
  • Finley: 20.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg
  • Nash: 13.7 ppg, 8.2 apg,
  • Finals record: 0-0
  • Time together: 1999-2004

At first, it looked as though Steve Nash was going to be the odd man out. With Michael Finley establishing himself as a superstar in the making and Dirk Nowitzki rounding into form, Nash struggled early on.

In his first two seasons in Dallas, Nash only managed to score 7.9 and 8.6 points a night. He finally picked things up in year three as he poured in 15.6 points a game. For the rest of his tenure, he was a double-digit scorer and averaged just a shade under eight assists a night.

Finley was amongst the game’s best shooting guards. The highly athletic two guards scored 20.4 points a night during their six-year stretch. Nowitzki simply became one of the best offensive players the NBA has ever seen. In four consecutive seasons, he averaged over 21 points a night. Despite the scoring from the permitter from Finley and Nowitski and the ball distribution of Nash, the Mavericks never made an NBA Finals appearance.

While they were a perennial powerhouse in the Western Conference, they could never get past the likes of the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio, Spurs.
