Best trios in NBA history: 17. LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love

  • Irving: 22.1 ppg, 5.2 apg, fg% 46.3
  • James: 25.6 ppg, 7.6 apg, 7.3 rebounds
  • Love: 17.1 ppg, 10.2 rpg
  • Finals record: 1-2
  • Time together: 2015-2017

Once LeBron James successfully won NBA titles with a big 3 while he was a member of the Miami Heat, he believed the time was right to head back home to the Cleveland Cavaliers. But while James knew that Kyrie Irving was a special player, he still wanted more.

So, in an effort to craft a new big 3, James began his recruitment process. With Irving already a part of the Cavaliers, James and the front office was successfully able to land big man, Kevin Love.

Irving, while only barely able to purchase liquor, was sensational during his three-year run with both James and Love, averaging as much as 25.2 points per game. James, of course, was his normal triple-double self, racking up 18 during his three years. Love though, was slightly disappointing.

As a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Love was a flat-out monster, averaging at least 26 points per game on two separate occasions. Once Love joined James and Irving, his numbers took a noticeable hit. He averaged 16.4 and 16 points during his first two seasons before averaging 19 in year three.

Ultimately, James, Irving, and Love made three finals appearances and took home one NBA title. In the process, they became the first and only team to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals. While it may have appeared as though they underachieved as a group, once Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors, there was simply no stopping them.
