Goals for Jerami Grant and the Detroit Pistons: 1. Provide leadership

When Jerami Grant came to Detroit in the first place, he was signing onto a team that was already veteran-laden. Derrick Rose is famously beloved by his teammates, especially the younger guys on the teams he plays for, and that was the case with the Pistons as he mentored Killian Hayes and Saben Lee at the point guard position.

Blake Griffin was known in Detroit for his stoic professionalism and elite leadership. Suddenly, both are gone and Grant is not just the best player on the team, but he’s basically the Team Dad as well. His veteran leadership will be key on a team just stacked with youngsters.

Fortunately, these Baby Pistons are high-character kids and seem eager to learn, develop and be mentored as professionals, so Grant shouldn’t have too hard of a job in doing so. However, he’s going to have to actually do the job and that may not have been exactly what he thought he was signing up for barely more than 10 months ago when he inked that three-year deal with Troy Weaver and the Pistons.
