Goals for Jerami Grant and the Detroit Pistons: 2. Fit with Cade Cunningham

Jerami Grant is the best player on the Pistons roster, but Cade Cunningham is the most important player and the face of the team’s future.

At a glance, it seems like this duo should work wonderfully together. They’re both unselfish, highly intelligent players who focus their efforts and energy on team first. Cunningham and Grant are both excellent defenders and their combined forces should help lead to an improved team defense next season.

It’s one thing to suggest that the pieces should all fall into place, but it’s another to actually execute on it. While Cunningham is expected to be an exceptionally high-level rookie, NBA rookies have a steep learning curve. Especially at the point guard position, where Cunningham expects to be featured, and for players who can play and defend multiple positions as he can.

They should be good together, and it’s imperative that they actually are. There may be growing pains as they adapt to each other, but given the personalities and mutual goals Cunningham and Grant share, their pairing should lead to great things in Detroit.
