Boston Celtics: Way-too-early rotation projections for the upcoming season
Boston Celtics Center – Robert Williams
After a breakout year for the fourth-year rim protector, Robert Williams, there shouldn’t be any questions regarding who the starting center will be for the Boston Celtics this season. In doing so, the Celtics issued Williams a four-year, $54 million contract extension, locking him in Boston until at least 2026.
Although Williams is looking to be the starter for the Celtics, it’s worth mentioning that he’s only started 16 games throughout his career. Furthermore, his contract is rich enough to put his salary in the top half of the league’s centers. It’s fair to say that Boston’s front office truly believes that Williams is going to be a true contributor for the next handful of years.
Williams is a total game-changer when he’s on the court. The only element considering Williams is his overall durability to withstand the duration of the regular season. He’s been injured more often than not during his first three years in Boston. This contract proves that the Celtics believe in what he can bring to the table and are hoping that his injury history will be left in the past.
It’s worth noting that only $48 million of Williams’ $54 million contract is guaranteed. The other $6 million can be earned through incentives, most likely one of them is playing in a certain amount of games.
