Boston Celtics: Way-too-early rotation projections for the upcoming season
Boston Celtics Forwards – Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum
This lineup forces Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum to slide down one positional spot – Brown at the three and Tatum at the four.
Considering both Brown and Tatum have increased their defensive play, sliding them down one spot in the lineup isn’t going to negatively impact the team in those regards. If anything, the move will actually put Brown and Tatum in a position to guard the opposition’s better players more often than not.
Tatum has already fluctuated between the forward positions throughout his career, so this shouldn’t be anything new for him. Brown, on the other hand, is more accustomed to playing out of the two-guard spot, however, he has seen some minutes as a small forward during his career.
We shouldn’t expect anything different from either Tatum or Brown because of their position on the court this season. If anything, with a new and improved team, we should see the Jay’s take the next steps in their career to further propel the Boston Celtics to higher heights.
The next step for Tatum’s progressions would be to increase his playmaking abilities. He’s a vital part of Boston’s offense, which makes him heavily targeted defensively. The Celtics will benefit from Tatum making more plays for his teammates this season.
The same can be said for Brown, who I feel is more adaptable to certain things than Tatum. Becoming more of a playmaker and drawing the attention away from himself will benefit Brown in the long run regarding his own shot selections.
