The verdict on whether the Los Angeles Lakers should trade for Jeremy Lamb

If the Lakers ultimately do want to push their chips in and trade for Lamb to improve their roster, it will not be an easy task. Overcoming those financial hurdles is a difficult assignment, especially with the team’s depleted asset cabinet. Recent injury history or not, the Pacers are not likely going to trade away one of the key pieces on their roster for spare change.

If they are indeed interested, the verdict is truly unclear right now because nobody knows just how healthy Lamb is and what type of player he will be upon returning. Still, a player coming off such a devastating stretch of injuries is bound to show significant signs of rust to start the year and will likely struggle to regain his footing, at least early on.

If Lamb returns and has a bounce-back year, it could make sense for the Lakers to target him closer to next season’s trade deadline. That would give the team a longer stretch to evaluate his health and have a better understanding of whether or not they should make a genuine run at him, especially if he can return to form shooting the basketball. If the Lakers need a lift down the line in the season, Lamb could be the answer.

All in all, the Los Angeles Lakers should hold onto their interest in Lamb until they see him back in action with their own eyes. If he is healthy enough, he could be a prime trade deadline target.
