Phoenix Suns NBA free agency move No. 2: Re-signing Cameron Payne

Cameron Payne had a long and consulted journey to signing with the Phoenix Suns. He was drafted by the OKC Thunder with the 14th pick in the 2015 NBA draft. He spent a season and a half with the Thunder before being traded to the Chicago Bulls. He was better known for his pre-game dance moves with Russell Westbrook than his work on the court.

During his time with the Bulls, one official was quoted saying that Payne was not up to NBA basketball. He was waived by the Bulls after almost two seasons with the franchise. He then signed two 10-day contracts with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He then signed with the Toronto Raptors but was waived prior to the season commencing.

The Suns then signed Payne to a deal just prior to the bubble starting where the Suns were impressed with what they saw. They then signed him to a minimum deal for last season where he played incredibly well. The games he played in the playoffs when Paul was out were a sight to behold.

The Suns again rewarded Payne with a deal worth $19.0 million over the next three seasons. His effort and energy will be good for the Suns over the next three years as he develops his game more.
