Portland Trail Blazers NBA free agency signings: 2. Tony Snell

The Trail Blazers needed to find some more shooting this offseason. They lost Carmelo Anthony to the Los Angeles Lakers as he looks to chase a title in one of the few seasons he has left at the top level. Anthony provided a much-needed spark off the bench during his time with the team.

Tony Snell was traded to the Atlanta Hawks prior to last season and gave them some really good minutes when he was on the floor. Snell is a true 3-and-D type player who was able to make the most of his limited 3-point attempts last season, going at an incredible 56.9 percent from beyond the long line.

This is how he is able to impact a game the most without having the ball in his hand. The Trail Blazers have a three-guard lineup who all play extremely well with the ball in their hands. The ability to have a player who only takes the shots he thinks that he can make and be happy with a low number of attempts is a good find for this team.

While Snell’s defense is not at the same level as Robert Covington’s, he can more than hold his own at that end of the floor. He is also a really smart transition defender which will take some of the pressure off Lillard and McCollum. This is a sneakily good signing.
