Pistons poised for a breakout season: 1. Jerami Grant

Jerami Grant is coming off a breakout season of his own already, but I believe he’s poised for a more complete, all-around explosion next season.

His production tailed off a bit over the course of the season as the heavy load took a toll on him both physically and schematically as his body took the brunt of bumps, bruises and strains, and opposing defenses keyed off on him.

Ultimately, he paid the price of being the only real offensive threat for much of the campaign after Derrick Rose was traded. Even Blake Griffin was of some assistance to him; although Griffin wasn’t much of a scoring threat, he could at least possess the ball for portions of the game and reduce Grant’s workload in a superficial way.

It’s worth noting that some of Grant’s biggest scoring games came after Griffin was bought out and Rose was traded, but he had the ball a whole lot more, so when the ball goes in a lot, big scoring games are going to happen.

Now Grant will have Cade Cunningham, Piston royalty’s heir apparent. Cunningham is a talented playmaker and his scoring punch will unburden Grant, making his life infinitely easier and allowing him to flourish.
