San Antonio Spurs: Grading their NBA free agency signings
San Antonio Spurs NBA free agency signing No. 7: Jock Landale
We all know that the Spurs head coach loves an international player. The most winning trio in NBA history was Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili. Parker was French and Ginobili was Argentinian, connecting through the Popovich system of basketball.
The Spurs just lost their longest-tenured player, Australian Patty Mills. Who better to replace an Australian champion with another Australian. Jock Landale has played summer league ball previously and had some successful time in Europe.
Landale then won the finals MVP for the NBL champions Melbourne United prior to replacing the production of Aron Baynes in the Australian National Team during the Olympics, helping them to their first-ever medal at a major championship.
Landale is a solid defender and can hit the 3-ball making him a solid stretch-five. He is not afraid of the pressured moments and will be a solid addition to the Spurs big man stocks which have looked a little thin since the LaMarcus Aldridge buyout last season.
Currently, the only other big men on the roster are Collins and Jakob Poieltl meaning that the Spurs are going to struggle against teams with dominant big men. Landale is also only 25 years old so he fits the Spurs timeline well.
