San Antonio Spurs NBA free agency signing No. 6: Zach Collins

In his four seasons in the league, Zach Collins has never fully reached his potential. He spent two seasons earning his craft and then when he made it into the starting lineup in his third season, he was struck down by a shoulder injury which kept him out for all but 11 games of the season.

Late in that season, during the bubble, Collins was struck down by an ankle injury. He would go on to have two surgeries for this problem area and missed his entire fourth season. As a result, the Trail Blazers did not extend him a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.

This meant that the Spurs were able to pick up Collins relatively cheaply. They signed him to a three-year, $22 million deal. This size deal carries some inherent risk for the Spurs as there is no guarantee that Collins will make the court next season.

However, if he is able to make the court He was developing into a solid stretch-four with the ability to play some center as well. He can rebound, block shots and is starting to develop his passing game. If he is able to play, Collins will really help this team.

Grade: B+ if he plays
