San Antonio Spurs NBA free agency signing No. 2: The DeMar DeRozan trade part one – Al-Farouq Aminu.

Al-Farouq Aminu was one part of the DeMar DeRozan trade with the Chicago Bulls. Aminu has been a well-traveled player in his 11-year career. He has played for six different teams so far and assuming that he does not get traded, the Spurs will be Aminu’s seventh team.

Aminu has now been traded twice this season. He started out as a member of the Orlando Magic to begin the 2021-22 season before being a part of the Nikola Vucevic trade which sent him to the Bulls. However, he only played six games and did not appear to suit their style of play.

The 6’8″ combination forward has always struggled on the offensive end but was only able to average 1.5 points per game on 20.0 percent shooting. He was worse from deep, only hitting 16.7 percent of his looks from beyond the arc.

Aminu is in the final season of his deal which is worth $9.7 million this season. If he can resurrect his career with the Spurs they may be able to flip him for another asset. If not then they can let him walk at the end of the season but that seems unlikely. He is most probably on the move prior to the deadline.
