Reasons for Dallas Mavericks player rating movement

The Dallas Mavericks had an entirely calamitous offseason, seeing longtime general manager Donnie Nelson and longtime head coach Rick Carlisle both leave in just a matter of days.

It was a stunning amount of upheaval, considering this franchise already has the holy grail in Doncic and simply should spend all its energy building around him. Instead, there was bickering and in-fighting, and the Mavs are left with Jason Kidd as head coach and an unproven first-time general manager in Nico Harrison.

Not a great spot if you’re a Mavs fan.

You can expect Luka Doncic to soar this season, as well as his teammates that expect to log minutes with him, like Tim Hardaway Jr. But the cupboard is bare once you get beyond the most top end of the talent on this roster.

Kristaps Porzingis is another question mark, after playing the role of the world’s smallest big man in the playoffs against the LA Clippers. NBA 2K probably should dock him a couple of points relative to his final 2021 standing, and we rated him accordingly.

There’s disaster potential in Dallas, but thanks to newly max-extended Doncic, they may be able to keep the ship afloat nonetheless.
